Get to Work: How to Get Yourself Back in Studying Mode - BACK TO SCHOOL

Sometimes, I just have no desire to study. I’d rather crawl into bed and watch all 5 seasons of Friday Night Lights in succession. I'll miss lazing around this summer (aside from interning, taking summer courses and working, of course). However, that is no way to get through college, guys. This is my magical system that I use to get into study mode - especially after a wonderful summer.
  • Organize your desk/workspace and office supplies – Things will instantly look neater and a clear space makes for a clear mind. Well, ideally.
  • Make a to-do list using super cute paper and your favorite pens – Head to your nearest Staples (the mothership - I have a weird thing for school supplies) and stock up on cute (but functional) notepads, pens, and pencils. If you're a visual learner like me, make sure to color code! I find that to-do lists help reduce stress. You see exactly what you have to complete in an organized way, and it feels great to cross the tasks off as you go along until there's nothing left. *phew*
  • Think of a hardworking, smart character you love on TV – My character of choice is Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls. She’s awesome, and she motivates me to conquer the piles of schoolwork.
  • If you can work to music, make a playlist of songs you can get to work to – You can listen to mine here. It doesn't have to be made up of fast hip-hop or dubstep or something, it can be whatever gets you in the zone.
  • Figure out your ideal studying mode – Want the heat cranked up? Want absolute silence? White noise? Iced coffee? Plenty of fruit? Make it happen! Your grades are worth it.
Allow yourself to have some Netflix breaks. Just don’t get sucked into a movie marathon, try to stick to short TV episodes.

Keep getting distracted?

Make use of your iPhone’s “Do Not Disturb” function, close this browser window and GET TO WORK.

Still not working?

Ban those guilty pleasures if it really gets to be a problem. Sometimes, without even realizing I’ll just type in Facebook. These tools will really help you out – and avoid scrolling through Tumblr for 3 hours. They’re extensions/add-ons to temporarily block websites you specify for as long as you need.

A while back, I found out that I spent a disgusting amount of time on Tumblr and Netflix and not so much on Microsoft Word doing schoolwork. Hahaha. You will NOT believe how much time you waste on social media. If you want to keep track like I did, read more about it at RescueTime.

Have a great school year everyone! I hope this helped and inspired you to get your stuff together for school!
